Stratford-upon-Avon
Stratford-upon-Avon lies at the very
heart of England. It attracts people not only by its history and connection
with William Shakespeare, but also by its wonderful nature and typical English
character.
Stratford stands on the river Avon
and is one of the oldest market towns. It has still preserved its own character
and atmosphere, as you will not see modern buildings there. The houses
are small and lot of them are very old. Some of them date back to Shakespeare's
time. Here you can visit Shakespeare's birthplace (it is a museum now), Anna
Hathaway's cottage (the early home of Shakespeare's wife), the foundations of
the New Place, where Shakespeare lived when he retired and died in 1616 (now
there is only a wonderful garden on the place of the house). Just round the
corner there is Grammar school that Shakespeare used to attend.
Here in Stratford there is Holy
Trinity Church where William Shakespeare was buries. |

The British Parliament
The
British Parliament is the oldest in the world. It originated in th 12th century

pursuing his policy. The British Parliament consists of the House of Lords and

Customs and
Traditions in Britain
Some British customs and traditions
are famousall over the world and a lot of them have very long histories. First
I will tellyou about British customs during the year. In January, there is a
festival, calledUp-Helly-Aa.In the ninth century, men from Norway came to the
Shetlands. The Shetlands areislands near Scotland. These men were theVikings.
They came to Britain in shipsand carried away animals, gold, and sometimes
women and children, too. Now, 1000 years later, people in the Shetlands
remember the Vikings with a festival. They call the festival
"Up-Helly-Aa". Every winter the people of Lerwick, thisis a town in
the Shetlands, make a model of a ship. It´s a Viking"longship",
with the head of a dragon at the front. Then, on Up-Helly-Aa nightin January,
the Shetlanders dress inViking clothes, carry the ship through thetown to the
sea and there they burn it. |

The government possesses monopoly
for legal use of means of compulsion and formally plays a role of the
arbitrator in distribution of the blessings. What general principles govern the
origins and organizations of the community?
What, if anything, justifies
government in claiming authority over its subjects? Why do you think citizens
are obligated to obey their government? Compare and contrast the different
approaches of natural law, positive law, social contract theory, and
utilitarianism, to these questions. In your view, is any of these approaches
satisfactory in legitimizing governmental authority? Why, or why not?
The government possesses monopoly
for legal use of means of compulsion and formally plays a role of the
arbitrator in distribution of the blessings. There is a danger, that the
government will distribute them to own advantage. |

Benjamin Franklin ( 1706-1790), was
a jack-of-all-trades and master of many. No other American, except
possibly Thomas Jefferson, has done so many things so well.
As
statesman, Franklin stood in the front rank of the people who built the United
States. He was the only person who signed all four of these key documents in
American history : the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Alliance with
France, the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain, and the Constitution of the
United States.
Benjamin
Franklin was born in Boston on jan. 17, 1706. He was the 15th child and
youngest son in a family of children. His parents, Josiah and Abiah Franklin,
were hard-working, God-fearing folk. |

Brighton Beach |

Brighton Beach
Many immigrants from the former USSR
are great patriots of the United States, and these people sincerely love their
new motherland. But their feeling of America is of a little strange kind; it is
like a love of a parasite worm to the body of its host.
The way of life in the so-called
Russian District in Brooklyn is very interesting. I have seen different
countries and never saw anything like this. If you think that such thing as
culture of poverty does not exist, I would strongly recommend observing life in
Brighton Beach.
What do these people like in the US
the most? Freedom? Democracy? Maybe nature? No! The right answer is welfare,
and all means to get it are good. By the way, it is not difficult at all. The
easiest way is to prove that you have a serious illness. “How can I possibly do
it if I am perfectly healthy?” some naïve person might ask. |

Culture shock |
|
|
Culture shock
The term, culture shock, was
introduced for the first time in 1958 to describe the anxiety produced when a
person moves to a completely new environment.
This term expresses the feeling of
not knowing what to do or how to do things in a new environment, and not
knowing what is appropriate or inappropriate.
We can describe culture shock as the
physical and emotional discomfort one suffers when coming to live in another
country or a place different from the place of origin.
It is an anxiety that results from
losing all our familiar signs and symbols of social intercourse. Often, the way
that we lived before is not accepted as or considered as normal in the new
place.
Everything is different, and for
example, we don’t speak the language, don’t know when to shake hands and what
to say when we meet people, when and how to give tips, when to accept and when
to refuse invitations, when to take statements seriously and when not. |

Most striking
traits of peoples character
During our life we get in touch with
many people. We all know a password: "So many characters, so many
people " and it is really true. Character is the most important thing in a
person which attracts or repulses other people.
Each of us has his or hers good and
bad features of character, but some of them come to the fore that's why we can
say : "He is a bad man , because he is rude or impertinent . And he is a
good man because he is courageous, generous, kind-hearted . I have many friends
& a lot of acquaintances and they are all different . Some of them are
very kind-hearted and friendly some are not so kind but they are devoted
friends and always help me and their friends, but they can be very cold or
indifferent to other people.
Also some feature have a double
nature example: modesty or perseverance and others. Modest people are
usually polite, quite, but sometimes they tend to be too reticence. |

The art of conversation |
|
|
The art of conversation
Conversation is a talk of 2 or more
participants.
Conversation
is of 2 basic types:
conversation
for its own sake and
conversation
for some other purpose.
The
latter is practiced by politicians, preachers, salesmen, lobbyists, etc. The
first one is practiced among friends, relative, colleagues, etc.
To
be successful one has to be a good conversationalist. And the art of conversation
is a skill and can be acquired as many other work skills as typing, for
example.
The
ability to talk can be cultivated. To become a really good conversationalist it
is necessary to acquire the habit of conscientiously stocking your mind with facts
and information and then forming opinions on the basis of that knowledge.
Masters
of art of conversation rarely give advice, and usually only when requested. It
is then given without the intention to impose their will or wishes on other
people. |

Music in Russia and USA
Culture
is one of the most important components, which form every nation. It is one
occurrence that distinguishes and unites all the people who live in the world.
But it is impossible to imagine the culture without music, a very big part of
our life.
Every nation has one’s own music and
I think that inside music are concluded all peculiarities of the nation, it is
contain the key for understand the soul of people.
When I was associated with
foreigners (they were Americans) I noted that they liked our folk music, they
frequently listened it and each of them had without fail an audiocassette with
Russian folk music. They told me about the most popular in United States
Russian singers and composers. Our pop music is not famous outside Russia. But
many people from other countries love our folk and classical music.
On the contrary we know nothing
about American folk and classical music and I would like to discuss about it. |

Ecological problems |

Ecological problems
The Earth is the only planet in the
solar system where there is life. If you look down at the Earth from a
plane you will see how wonderful our planet is. You will see blue seas and
oceans, rivers and lakes, high snow-capped mountains, green forests and fields.
For centuries man lived in harmony with nature until industrialization brought
human society into conflict with the natural environment. Today, the
contradictions between man and nature have acquired a dramatic character. With
the development of civilization man’s interference in nature has increased.
Every year the world’s industry pollutes the atmosphere with millions of tons
of dust and other harmful substances. The seas and rivers are poisoned with
industrial waste, chemical and sewage discharge. |

A role of the USA
in the world politics
It is impossible to discuss a future
role of the United States of America in the world without understanding the
global processes that have been taken place in the world over the last several
years. September 11, without doubt, was a break point event in these
processes. First, it showed people a danger of an international terrorism.
Second, the event brought about a confrontation between two different
viewpoints on the development of world politics. On the one hand, politicians
from many countries believe that any active actions to preserve world order must
be organized only by United Nations. On the other hand, the United States is pushing forward its aggressive
unilateral policy that is based only on Washington’s (sometimes biased)
understanding of the current international situation.
This US strategy was clearly
demonstrated in Iraq. |

Your actions speak louder than words |
|
|
Your actions speak
louder than words.
Communication
process is not limited to what we say with words. There are 3 elements of
communication: Words (7% of information is communicated though words), Body
language (55%) and tone of voice (38%). Thus, 93% of communication is
non-verbal.
The
patterns of non-verbal communication that people use are defined by their
culture, gender and social status.
There
are several types of Non-verbal communication: Kinesics, Proxemics, Chronemics,
Oculesics, Haptics.
Kinesics
– movement of the body (head, arms, legs, etc.). For example, the gesture of
slitting one’s throat in America means “I’ve had enough” or “I’m in trouble” in
Swaziland means “I love you”.
Proxemics
– the use of interpersonal space. For example Greeks and South Americans find
it comfortable to stand, sit or talk to people at a distance which seems to North
Americans and some Europeans intolerably close. |

The cloning |
|
|
The cloning
The term of cloning came from a
Greek word that meant “a branch”, or “a bine”. It has to do chiefly with
apprehension of plant cloning. The cloning of plants by stems, bulbs or gemmas
has been known for more than 4 thousand years.
Starting from 1970s, for plant
cloning the use of small groups of somatic cells and sometimes the use of a
single detached cell has been applied.
However, the process of cloning
animals has it’s own obstacles. At the time of the animals’ cells development,
the cells lose their ability to negotiate the genetic information that lies in
the nucleus.
Owing to the experiments on the
amphibia in 1950s, the possibility of cloning vertebrates was first shown.
These experiments let scientists see that the serial nucleus grafting and “in
vitro” cell cultivation in some degree increase the ability of genetic information
implementation.
Early in the 90s, the problem of
cloning embryonic cells of mammals has been solved. |

Illumination in Bonaventure’s Epistemology
By Alexander Koudlai
I
The telos of this essay is to support the axiology of the literary
work of the great man, which impressed me who lives almost eight hundred years
later. What makes it so important to me and may be to our contemporary culture?
The epistemology and metaphysics are considered there together and in such a
way that the ethics of human life is affected in a reasonably defensible
manner. Probably our contemporary axiology (and particularly in the matters of
acquiring and evaluating of knowledge) may benefit from the investigation of
Bonaventure’s theory.
Today we are used to hear that a theory has to be verifiable in
order to be considered as knowledge. By verifiable it is usually meant
empirically provable. The latter means observable to senses and capable of repeated
observations. The theories of ancient and medieval thinkers are usually treated
lightly and accused of dogmatism, i.e. |

Importance of marketing research
Moiseenko T.S. ДонНТУ
Now Ukrainian
businessmen meet a lot of problems when trying to enter and develop the new
market. The problem that company executives faced is absence of relevant
information about competitors and customer needs. As a rule it is too difficult
to collect some information with the help of state statistic organizations.
Private companies providing marketing service are inexperienced, because it is
new consulting service in Ukraine. The activity of the firms that provide
marketing research is not so developed as in the West companies. It can be
explained by existed approach at the soviet time to the service and market in
whole. So, we need time to destruct an old stereotype and build new effective
system of manufacturing activity. The idea is to study marketing, demand, and
clients needs. Marketing as a method of research and satisfaction of customer
needs is also quite new for our country. |
